Join curators from the V&A’s Photography and Prints department as they introduce key Collection objects which represent art’s close relationship to forms of protest and resistance.

This Study Session is part of Acts of Resistance: Photography, Feminisms and the Art of Protest, a new group exhibition co-curated between the V&A and South London Gallery, as part of the V&A’s Parasol Foundation Women in Photography project.

Photography, illustration, print making and graphic design all have a long association with protest and acts of resistance.  Art has been used both historically and contemporarily to document action, share ideas, inspire change, tell stories, gather evidence and fight injustice.

In this study session, curators from the V&A’s Photography and Print departments will introduce Collection objects which agitate, motivate and advocate for change, including photographs, posters, ephemera and fine art prints. Selected objects speak to themes of social injustice, gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights.
